Dr. Margarida Fernandes
Scientific profile
Dr. Margarida Fernandes is graduated in Chemistry from University of Minho, Portugal, where she also obtained her PhD degree in Textile Engineering. During the PhD, the focus of her studies was the enzymatic functionalisation of proteins for cosmetic and medical applications. Current research activities of Dr. Fernandes at GBMI involve the development of novel antimicrobial strategies using nano-tools to control the bacterial resistance and the formation of biofilm on indwelling medical devices as well as the development of new biomaterials, especially micro/nano-particulate systems for cosmetic applications. Currently Dr. Fernandes holds an individual Marie-Curie Intra-European Fellowship (IEF) for career development (grant ref. “NanoQuench” FP7-331416).
