Dr. Antonio Francesko

Dr. Antonio Francesko is a senior research fellow at GBMI (UPC) with background in biochemistry/biotechnology and PhD in materials science. His current research focus is engineering of biopolymer-based materials including fabrication of micro- and nano-particles, and means of their functionalisation using active agents for biomedical applications. During and after his PhD in the group, Dr. Francesko participated in 9 EU and national (in Spain) research and industry-driven projects, developing thus the expertise in the field of applied biomaterials for medical applications. His scientific contribution in this area is reflected in 12 peer-reviewed papers and 4 book chapters. Dr. Francesko is one of the associated supervisors in the group, providing overseeing and training of young researchers, PhD and master students. He is currently holding an individual grant Torres Quevedo for industrial investigation (PTQ-12-05568), winning a total value of 62.563,20 EUR.
